Air bag removal
Hi - 2005 V70
The steering wheel is loose - so this can't be hard - disconnect battery, pop off air bag and tighten nut - job done Well try as I may I could not unclip the airbag from the steering wheel...… The last one I took off my 850 (or early V70 - cant recall?) had torx screws - and I've unclipped these things from Nissans before (admittedly it was a faff and harder that I thought)….. …...but my V70 is proving impossible for me - I even took off the steering column surround and adjusted the steering column fully extended Any tips/pointers? Or anyone in north London/herts adept at this who fgancies the proverbial drink to assist??? Thanks |

One of my cars was a pain in the proverbial backside, and one was easy - but I can’t remember which has the torx screwS and which had the silly clips. We’re talking an S60 and V70 from the same year.
The one with the clips, method I used was to turn the wheel 90 degrees one way, so the hole in the back of the wheel is at the top. Use a smallish flat blade screwdriver try and wriggle the clip (it springs one way), swear a bit, have another go, swear a bit more, final try and it popped lose. Turn wheel 180 degrees and repeat for 2nd hole. Remember to have the car battery disconnected as you don’t want an accidental detonation or srs error setting. |

Yes - done all of that
Wheel at 90 then through 180 Steering column cover off and adjustment at maximum extended Battery off first of course It's the clip type not the Torx - I wish it was!! I've wiggled, waggled and sworn - a lot!! No joy :-( |

as above, jack the car in the air at the front so wheels are free to turn with no resistance.
disconnect battery negative. turn wheel 90 so it exposes a small 5mm hole on the back of the wheel. use a small but not tiny flat blade screwdriver to push in out outward a metal spring tab - once you get it right the airbag will pop off ONE SIDE. turn the wheel 180 so the OTHER hole is at the top, and stick teh blade into to pop off the other side. oragex (peppermint on youtube) has a video for this procedure
