Volvo xc70 gearbox problem
Hi I’m new to this .
I have a problem and would appreciate any info anybody can give. My volvo xc70 gearbox is giving me a few headaches. On the dash the symbol D for drive is visible but occasionally it will disappear and then the gear box clunks If I stop and reset it by turning the ignition off and on again the problem goes away for a while. Can anyone point me in the right direction I do have a mechanic background So know my way around an engine . Ta |

What's the age, colour, condition and level of the transmission fluid when checked at the correct operating temperature?

Also the year and miles. Good to test the battery and the alternator while there

Along with the advice above:
I've had gearbox issues (clonk and wrong display (R while in D iirc)) that were solved by cleaning and contact-spraying the connector near the airfilter (on a D5) coming from the gearbox. Has been trouble-free* for a decade since (knock on wood). *And I've had clonking and a general dash-failure due to overheating of the CEM, but I consider that to be a different issue, hence claiming 'trouble-free' in the above sentence. My gearbox is a 2004 geartronic on a D5 |
