Default Driveshaft oil seal

Hi all, my 440 TD has a leaky driveshaft oil seal but i cant seem to get a new one anywhere, no local motor factors do them and volvo dont have them, i think ive tracked one down abroad but is going to be costly, is there any other cars that share the same gearbox that i could get a seal from, my 440s a 1995 too.

Thankyou

The 400 series had Renault engines and - as far as I know - gearboxes.

I cannot categorically answer your question - others on here will know more no doubt - but I'd suggest looking down that route, since Renault 19s, 21s, and others of that era and later might well give you what you need....

Good luck!

David

A really simple solution is to measure the seal & buy one from a local bearing factors seeing as they are normally off the shelf parts bought by the manufacturers . You could also try cleaning the seal face & writing down any figures moulded onto the face as this can be used to identify the seals dimensions

Metric oil seals are more or less straight forward as the size is stamped on the seal for example 20 47 7 this indicates that the inside is 20mm, outside 47mm & width 7mm, some oil seals have different lip arrangements the most common are shown below,

Lip arrangement

SC=R21 & TC=R23 being the most common R21=Single Lip R23=Double Lip
So for example if you had on your oil seal TC 20 47 7 you would now know that you would need a double lip seal with a 20mm inside, 47mm outside & 7mm width.

Hope that helps
