Default 400 series parts scrapped

Just to advise, today I went to Sussex Volvo Parts of Lancing to try to get some bits for my 740 and the boss told me he'd scrapped all 400 and 700 series spares. I knew it was imminent and did announce it, but he said he'd had absolutely no enquiries, so as he needed shelf space junked the lot.

As I often say, when its gone its gone.....

I regularly try to stock up on parts when I see them cheaply, regardless of whether I need them or not.
Planned obsolescence is not a good thing

Scrapping your stock of parts because no one buys them and you need the space isn't planned obsolescence. It sucks, and he should have just donated them to the community, but it's not planned obsolescence.

Volvo plan the obsolescence. the vast majority of parts are discontinued by volvo.
Scrappies can then keep us ticking over, but they too are just a business.

Donate them to community? How many people do you know that would like a dozen or more scrap cars in their back garden?

I agree Joe, especially as he knows me, my address (so local you can see the place) and phone number. As I've known him for decades and know his space constraints as have been let loose in his stores several times, I offered to keep them in my empty shed until the VOC registrars answered my mails - but they never did. However, he has absolutely no sentimentality for perhaps priceless parts as he's a dealer through and through. He even boasted scrapping Volvo Amazon axles too - they were never offered!
I did my best, but obviously not enough as have been in hospital a lot these last 3 months.
Agree also re buying all parts one can for one's older Volvo - it will be necessary one day for sure.

Jiff - our replies crossed. I run a 164 and 144, and YES I do have what some may call scrap cars on my land, simply for spares-reclaim when needed. When did you last see a 164 in a scrappie in the south? You try getting a decent seat for one - rare as chickens teeth.

If no one's buying the parts it doesn't matter if they're discontinued or not does it?

And judging by the number of rotting cars I see in front gardens, a surprising number

Where do people get their 480 parts from these days?
