Default load compensating suspension

I'm full of questions today.

I was just considering tow bar mounted bike racks as I will almost certainly fit a tow bar to the V70.

the only issue I have with them is it is hanging a lot of weight way out the back and so you often see cars with the rear suspension really compressed.

Did V70's come with load compensating/self leveling rear suspension as std? mine is a 2015 D4 SE Lux if it makes a difference.

Thanks

Don't think it was standard fit, if you look you can tell as the Nivomats are a combined unit with the spring and a much fatter looking shock with a rubber concertina type boot.

7-seat XC90's (which is all UK versions) where the only car to have Nivomats as standard I believe.

If you are buying through the Volvo Select programme you could ask for a car with load compensating suspension. Their system will get all cars with it fitted. It worked for me back in the day: Wanted a V70 T5 +sunroof + LCS. The lad was back in under a day and the car was bought there and then and I ran it for another 235K miles.

Thanks all, I'll have a look underneath later.

Unfortunately/fortunately I have all ready bought a car privately.

I thought the Nivomats were for the self adjusting suspension system (poor man's range rover type). Not brilliant - I had a car with them - but then there are few chances for abrasive driving round here. Very expensive to repair.

What you need is 'load compensating suspension' which are two stage passive shock absorbers (nivos are active) and there are market alternatives, I believe. Designed for towing 'vans / heavy trailers.

I strongly disagree - whilst the Nivomat's are a passive "self levelling" system they do and excellent job with a heavily loaded car and/or towing. They aren't that expensive.

My V70 has nivomats and they are superb when towing my twin axle caravan and alot more reliable than the range rover air suspension!
