I’m running Cross Climates on my XC70.
They’ve been on since around the beginning of the year.

I’ve a post on here with a mini review and a video of them in the snow. (I would link to it, but I’m travelling and on a mobile and can’t work it out!!)
A cracking tyre in the winter for my needs.
Since that time I think it rained most days in March and April. The tyres gripped noticeably well in damp conditions. The noise of the tyres on a wet road is still present though.

For the last month in the mini heatwave we’ve been having, I’ve the feeling that the tyres are reaching their limit of grip sooner than my Scorpions would be. On hard cornering, the car feels slightly unsettled, almost as if there is a small amount of gravel on the road. This is only experienced when I’m on my own giving it some welly!!
In normal driving conditions they perform well.

My view on the topic is that since I choose not to run two sets of wheels/tyres, the CC are a good choice. Performing exceptionally well in the winter months when the roads are at their worst and offering good levels of grip in the summer too. The car isn’t a sports car, it’s a family wagon, so I’m happy with this split of performance.

I’ve not measured the wear on them yet, but a visual shows they are not suffering excessive wear.

Thanks for that. Good to hear a balanced view on the cross climates. I think I'll give them a go and see how I get on

Hi,

I decided to get some Mitchlin Crossclimates - based on reviews I had seen.

Whilst in Belgium in Jan/Feb this year there was a good dose of snow (in the Uk they had almost an inch - catastrophic!) of about 4#-5". Whilst visiting a house I was driving past BMW X5 and other 4X4 vehicles whilst they were stuck on slopes.

Sure a pure winter tyre WILL out-perform the Mitchlin but they are one hell of a lot better that summer tyres and the increase in fuel use and noise is actually not that bad.

Des. . .

Default Changed from Pirelli to Nokian Weatherproof.

When daughter bought her XC70 used from main dealer it was fitted with Pirelli Scorpion STR M+S on 3 of the wheels and a Pirelli Scorpion Zero Asymetric M+S on the rear offside wheel. On 18in. wheels. Some research indicated that these were all classified as four season tyres. The front Scorpions still had 4.5 mms. of tread but wore down quite quickly so we have fitted a pair of Nokian Weatherproof classified as all season M+S and winter on the front . They are excellent.
I've had Kleber Quadraxer all season tyres on my 940 for years and find them excellent but they weren't available in the required size for the XC70.
