What's annoying about this is I just drove my mum's 2016 v40 auto and the hill hold holds the car while the start stop 're starts. So why didn't Volvo make it work on the v70!

I think the hill holder is only on manuals, my 2017 D5 has it and it works fine.

Which makes sense, since starting uphill with an automatic requires no special skill.
The torque converter gearboxes will try to move the car all the time, brakes applied or not, as long as you aren't in N or P. Well, not those which stops the engine when you stop, of course, but assuming the engine is idling.

Yep, makes perfect sense when idling. Makes no sense when the engine cuts out a d the car rolls back while it restarts.

Just wierd that volvo didn't sort it out. Not an issue in other manufacturers.

My v70 D5 revs up slightly when the clutch bites which holds the car and prevents it stalling easily. Quite like it personally.

Me too on my manual v60. Just thinking a case that the v70 start stop wasn't really integrated with it. No bother.... all cars have characteristics to learn..... Just have to use the handbrake or turn the start stop off I guess!
