850 batteries would last 4 years then die due to the continous heat and cold from being exposed in the engine bay. V70 P2 batteries would last 13 years becasue they were in the rear of the car and protected from the frost and the engine heat. My P3 batteries are in the engine compartment but are behind plastic enclosures so I will wait and see how well protected they are there. To load test your battery, try one of these:-

Given that it only loads up to 100A, it's going to be of limited use on our batteries and for £15, it's an expensive one trick pony.

Some quick, basic multimeter tests will weed out a bad battery very quickly.

My MY2009 XC90 battery in the rear lasted 9 years before replacement

My 18 month old genuine Volvo XC70 P3 Battery is showing "Low Battery" warnings! Must get VIDA/DiCE on the job and see if there is a charging fault.

Verdict from main dealer, internal collapse of battery, I would have expected 7 years at least.
Still, problem sorted.
Thanks to all who responded, much appreciated.

None at all, which I expected tbh. Cost £145 for initial examination, supply and fit plus system reset.
Once had a Ford (new company car) battery died exactly one week after the 12 car month warranty expired, no chance of anything from them (rest of car was total cr-p also- must have cost Ford a fortune in warranty considering stuff that went wrong on that vehicle).
