If it's a 5 cylinder D4 you could just negotiate £200 off the price (which is about what it'll cost to do the aux belt at a main dealer) and then get it done for peace of mind.

I doubt the trader will want to lose the sale over 200 quid.

If you're picking up a 4 cylinder then it doesn't need doing.

Daft as this might sound but what has everyone been fitting genuine or after market belts that is if yours have been done by an Indy and not a main dealer, I use Gates as I find they are very good but I’m not sure if I should fit genuine as this will be the first time I have had to do this job on our XC60 she’s a 67 plate D5 AWD with just over 55k

yes it is daft to think about anything other than a volvo belt, on this critical application, they have strengthened it due to some issues they found in 2010 and reduced the service interval to 54000 miles ( time not so important) .

Hope I'm in the right place - thread seems apt but i'm not sure whether to post in here by replying to last post!. Anyway, here goes:

I have 2014 XC60 2.0D D4 Auto. just booked in for service at dealer a 172k miles. They've told me that cam belt should be changed (no mention of aux belt) at combined cost of £1250.

According to records from previous owner belt was last changed at 121,793 miles in Jul 2019. to have it done again at 50,000 miles / 4 years seems a bit soon.

The Dealer served me well a couple of years ago by replacing EGR and cooler when out of warranty so for me there are upsides/peace of mind by going there, but i'm a bit sceptical about this one.

Cant decide to do it, leave it (and worry about it failing), or go elsewhere.....

which engine have you the 4 or 5 cylinder Diesel? the aux belt must be changed when the cambelt is changed.

I have a MY2016 D4 VEA (4 cyl) and from what I've found about scheduled maintenance, they only mention belt change at 10 years/240000 km, both aux and timing belts.

Reading all this above I'm wondering if what I've found is wrong?

I got my info from here:

https://www.volvohowto.com/servicing...-plan-2013-on/

Thanx!

That must be the D4204T5 new VEA Engine. In which case the cam belt and Aux belt must be changed every 90000 miles or 10 years which ever comes first.
That information you showed is way out date as they revised the change interval about 7 years ago.
That web site looks like it may be American in which case things might be different there due to their different driving conditions.

you need to check your own country's volvo recommendation for the change interval , In UK it is 90000 miles or 10 years which ever comes first.
