Default Central Locking Hassles - 850 T5

Good morning chaps, good to be back on

Getting fed up with this Swedish rubbish - 2nd problem in 24 years of ownership !

I do not have a door key but two running fobs

She will unlock all 4 doors but not the tailgate

Locking can only be achieved by pushing down drivers door knon

I am far tooooo old to be leaning through the boot to unlatch the tailgate so any suggestions much appreciated

Bob Meadows - I am totally fed up with the utterly inept RAC would you remind me of details of your breakdown cover please - 3 phones melted on me since we last spoke !

A little bit of reflection tells me the tailgate latch is likely to be the problem ?

Damaged wire to the tailgate is telling the sensors it is permanently locked so the fob unlocks all the doors save the tailgate fine but won’t lock as it thinks they are all locked already ?

Any views greatly appreciated

Most likely a damaged wire or microswitch giving a false voltage reading to the central locking relay. Get a spare relay and try that, just in case you original is faulty, but otherwise you'll be going hunting with a multimeter in the boot area.

Check the loom as it comes through the tail gate hinge on the NS. Can pinch/wear over time.

Good luck.

Morgan

BF66 - Something similar happened with my old 850, twice, but I could use keys in the front two doors rather than fob, but using the key in the tailgate lock gave mixed results. Once it locked with my dog in the boot who had to be rescued via contortions through the rear seat and dog guard. I'm also too old for such shenanigans, haha!

It was the wiring in the tailgate hinge on the left first time around, second time I replaced the boot lock mechanism. I'll see if there are any pics to assist on my old build thread. I have a P3 V70 now with unnecessary motorised tailgate which I look forward to failing in some spectacularly inconvenient moment in the future

Edit: Here you go, post 12 onwards gives some info that might help if you end up dismantling the tailgate innards.

Thanks Chaps

And Stu yes I was talking to Steve at Braydons ( as it was ) recently re a neighbour who chopped in a perfectly decent P1 V70 for a s****ing new 90. I mentioned how sad it was that we live in an era where a grown man is so pathetic he has to press a button rather than open a tailgate latch with his right hand.

His response was not as pathetic as the £2k bill he is gonna get from us when it fails in about 10 years time. I felt like the cat on the specsavers ad !

Good news
1 neighbours disturbed thieves trying to steal Cat off Winston last week

2. Went out following day unlocked doors with fob, attention got dusturbed so returned several hours later. Noticed the 2 min locking device had activated ( fir first time in couple of months ) so concluded all must be well

3. Yep bang on the money central locking fully functional despite Steve at Brandon’s still not supplying a used but working relay !

Bad news is of course the fix can only be temporary
