Default Strange electrics

Car has been standing a while and battery flat couldn't open doors with the fob.
After opening with key I recharged the battery under the bonnet.
Upon starting no dash lights show except for eml. once its been running about 10sec they come on. This sequence happens each start up now and car wont lock or unlock with the fob. Any ideas please. 2003 xc90 geartronic.

Charge battery again overnight
Check with a battery tester
Check charging is working ok
Connect Vida and read codes

Hi, I understand from previous posts that Vida will not work on your odb port.

My suggestion is that you take your battery to be tested at a knowledgeable outlet. You will probably find it is faulty.

I had similar problems on my03 XC90 when my battery failed.

I understand you have an alternative code reader that will read and hopefully erase codes, but I recon you have many unrelated codes stored due to failing battery.

You really do need to remove the aftermarket parts that are compromising your odb port and use of Vida.

In the short term, put a volt meter on battery to check charging when engine running but you may have an additional low drain on your battery when parked. Could it be your after market parts?

If the battery is older than four years, I personally would change in any case. In my experience , batteries do not like to go completely flat as yours did.

I have ordered a new battery and gave the old one another charge. I have now got dash lights but no rev counter fuel gauge. It will now unlock only the drivers door with the fob. Its going to be great fun climbing into the boot with the new battery. I am pretty certain its the after market parts causing the grief.

Does your code reader erase these codes and do you have a new battery?.

Although not indicated, have you checked condition of the cem? I understand this is the centre of the CAN bus and known to sometimes cause problems elsewhere.

Many report leaks in the bulkhead that can cause corrosion on this module situated on the bulkhead under the steering wheel.

It must be very frustrating after all the work replacing engine, hopefully will get sorted soon.

Good luck. John l

There are lots of threads on cem and issues, but you remove the panel in the footwell under the steering wheel. If I remember they are torx screws. The cem is in front of you, lots of connectors.

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=lRdXsCdvhVg

Note that above is just one example and that car is left hand drive with cem on the left.
UK cars have the cem on the right, but under the steering wheel in exactly the same relative place.

You will also see other threads and videos of cem water ingress in this forum.

Hope this helps

Pulled the cem yesterday no signs of water ingress. Will give it a good dose of electrical cleaner.
