2004 S40, New Engine or Repaired Engine?
Hello,
I am wondering if you guys can help me. I took my 2004 S40, 2.4L 5 Cylinders to the mechanic because it was overheated. Instead of repairing the head gaskets from the engine in the machine shop I decided to buy an engine and replace it. I just want to make sure that the mechanic did bought me a new engine. I know that I can check the engine serial number which is the last 6 digits of my vin number, where can I find the serial number in the engine? Any other suggestions on how to make sure this is not my old engine. P.S. They never ask me for the car title.I am not sure but I am guessing that when you change the engine to your car, it has to change your title or at least the vin number(last 6 digits). Thanks in Advance, Orlando Cordova |

You mean to say that you are not sure that the engine you got was new??? I think you would know it based on the price. A new one is...$5000USD. I'm guessing that a refurb would be somewhere around half of that. Did you get an invoice?
Having just taking some stuff off of mine, I believe that the serial number can be seen on the lhs of the engine below the throttle body. You can barely see a glimpse of the blue sticker in the image below.
