Default LPG London congestion charge exemption

Afternoon all

Can anyone shed any light on this?

Now that my 240GL is 100% LPG I would like to apply for exemption from the London congestion charge. My understanding is that cars running on alternative fuel including LPG can be exempted for an annual charge of £10 after submitting a copies of V5's and installation certificates.

Looking at the congestion charge website it advises that applicants should check whether their car and the installer is on the approved list. The list is on another site by the name of 'powershift'. When I looked at this list neither my car or installer were there. In fact all of the Volvos listed were modern ones.

Does anyone know anything about this? I am wondering whether it is worth applying anyway - or is it the case that if your car and installer arent on the list then you cant apply?

On average I travel through the zone about 6 times a year - not a huge saving, but better in my pocket than in Ken's!

Thanks
Ian

I know a bloke thats always buying cheap motors while he makes money on the side lines doing crashed and repaired cars from salvage.

He works up town in London on night as a London Underground manager and he had an old 735 BM fully converted to LPG and he said he didnt have to pay the CC, now your best bet is to check the transport for London website for full details, here's the CC website

http://www.cclondon.com/

Have a read up and make sure you are 100% sure you are ok before driving up town as you could be unregiesters and get a fine, not 110% sure how it works but spend 5mins or 10mins reading the website.

Hope that helps

Thanks for that but this states the same as the first websites that I looked at so I'm none the wiser!

Yes, the people who did the conversion have to be an approved powershift company in order to be applicable for being except of the charge.

If they are not on this list - not sure how a company would go about applying for it? surely it would be in their own interests - good advertising to be on the register. If they are not an approved company makes you wonder why not.

vipes

Edit: I've just had a look around as well your right only the recent Volvo models are on the list...strange.

When i had my lpg transit i had to pay a yearly charge to say i was lpg and cc exempt so i dont think its worth you bothering if you only go in a few times a year.
I have spent over £200 on parking and the CC in the last 3 weeks.

Default LPG and the congestion charge

My V70 is LPG-converted. I investigated the possibility of avoiding Red Ken's Congestion Charge. Unfortunately, unless your car and the installer are on the Powershift list you will still have to pay. Most older cars are not on the list, many installers are not on the list.

My belief is that when the tree-huggers in charge of the London Congestion Charge say that they encourage LPG cars this is just a stunt to be seen to be green, when in fact it's nigh on next to impossible to get an exemption.

Oop North it's different, and I believe that in Sheffield and in Manchester, you can get free or at least reduced rate parking as an LPG driver.

And just because an installer is not on the list does not mean he ain't reputable - just that he's got better things to do than f*** about with Ken's pointless paperwork.

The place is of course generally best avoided, but if you must go to the Undemocratic Republic of Londonistan, then pay up your Congestion Penalty and remain smug in the knowledge that as you sit in the Congestion (which curiously and despite the Charge, still hasn't actually gone away) at least it is only costing you half as much as the petrol-snorter in the next car. Oh and by the way, you'll also notice that LPG is quite difficult to find in London, and at over 50p a litre around 20% more expensive than elsewhere in the country.

Ian you may have to have to have the car checked over by the approved powershift company near you and pay for a certificate, sad but may be true, just an idea, is it worth giving one of the companies a call?
