The REAL issue - Chewed Frame
'86 245 DL
There is a job I have been putting $$ aside to do (to have done) - i think I'm almost there. Tinkering with appearance is fun but this one has been weighing on my conscience for some time now .. The frame is chewed by rust clean through in 2 places. Used and abused by southern Ontario road salt ... Just beneath the driver door and same place on the passenger side. Now - the floor itself is in pretty rough shape as well in this area and appears to have been "repaired" once or twice before using sheet metal and mini fiber. My mechanic said to do it all at once - the floor and the frame.. but i don't think I've got the resources to shell out for all that right now.. but i would sleep better knowing the frame is solid. I have inspected the vehicle front to back and this appears to be the only danger zone so i believe it to be a worth while repair. Being a uni-frame - am I along a whacky way of thinking to get this repair done in just these 2 frame spots for now? Much appreciate the help guys- |

The problem you may have is welding the frame up when the floorboards/floorpans are rotten. You cant weld new to rust.
Also whilst the seats and carpet are out, itll be easier to do it all in one go. I doubt youll save much $ by having to pay your garage to remove your interior twice rather than just the once. |
