Default XC60 - Current speed in trip computer

Hi everyone, I've just taken delivery of a new XC60 D5 Momentum (LHD European spec) after a four month wait and I just love it. The European specification differs in some respects from that in the UK - for example, electrically adjustable seats are a very expensive option here in Belgium, but most models have heated front and rear seats and leather trim).

Obviously, the speedometer is calibrated in km/hr, but the owner's manual describes a facility (available as an option) to display current speed in MPH via the trip computer. This would be a very useful feature when I visit the UK, but it is not available in the computer menu on my car. Furthermore, I can't find any reference to this feature in the dealer's options list.

Do UK cars have the option to display current speed in km/hr as a standard feature? If not, is the facility available as an option through the dealer. I presume it is just a software update!

Any advice would be much appreciated.

UK cars must have both MPH and KM for speed and in the XC60's case, its a matter of turning the wheel on the left indicator stalk until KMs shows up (same menu system as avg fuel consumption etc).

I don't think European cars have the MPH as standard..... I have certainly never heard of it.

Many thanks for your reply Newvolvo; I've tried everything to get the menu to display MPH when I turn the thumbwheel - I've even selected temporary left hand dipping of the headlamps in the lights menu to see if it is linked to that feature, but all to no avail.

It's a shame really, it would cost nothing to include this as a standard feature of the software, especially as it is already possible to select imperial units for fuel consumption etc.

Not to worry, a bit of mental arithmetic when I drive off the ferry certainly won't spoil the enjoyment of driving the XC60!

Is there an option in the menu system to switch between showing fuel consumption in l/100kms to MPG ? With my wifes car (a Citroën), doing this switches the digital speedo readout from kph to mph.

The computer can display fuel consumption and average speed etc in imperial units (MPH and MPG), but the speedometer is analogue so the only way to display current speed in MPH to use the computer display. Bizarrely, the software displays average speed in MPH but not current speed.

Uk cars have only MPH printed on the speedo dial and display KPH in the info centre when selected .. Continental cars dont have this display ..
If you are in UK you should be able to get your dealer to arrange a special software download to give this feature of displaying MPH in the display area .. They need to contact Volvo technical and they will arrange for the software to be modified to suit your needs ... I've heard of this happening before when the new V70 / S80 came out ..
