Some progress pics above! Just finished with the primer just got to wait 24 hours for it to harden before a light sanding then onto top coat. Then to finish I will use a ceramic wheel sealant.

While it's off you would be advised to change the entire schrader valve as they deteriorate over time

Mine was 8 years old when I tried to inflate the spare and the air escaped out the side of the valve stem, it had split in two. My caravan tyres were the same era and the metal threaded portion shot out and parted from the rummer when I blew the tyre up

It is not just the valves that deteriorate over time. The tyres do too. Not normally a problem on cars, as they will usually wear out before staring to perish, but caravan tyres are often several years old. The advice is to replace after 5 years, 7 at most. Replace the valve at the same time.

All that masking with paper and tape I find is a pain in the butt Chunky, so what i find is a lot easier if your using rattle cans, let a bit of air out so that when you tread on the sidewall it pushes away from the rim, then slide pieces of thin cardboard, cut,old greeting cards are ideal. p.s A bit of black boot polish does wonders for the tyre!

Regards,Keith.
