Oops, I stumbled in here a couple of weeks ago, without introducing myself...

Okay, I'm Mike, live in the Netherlands, bought myself in May a V40 1.9D from 1999, 214000 km which I'm very fond of. I work for the Royal Netherlands Airforce as F-16 technician (and for the insiders: I work at the 322 squadron at airbase Leeuwarden).

What I like the most at the moment of my V40 is the space it offers and last but not least the surplus of security it offers and known from Volvo.

There are some small modifications I want to do on my V40:the headlights (change those for Xenon) and changing the color of the side-lights, both needed where I live, where it really can get dark and where fog is persitant by times...

Hello and welcome...

I suggest you change your single reflector headlamps for the twin reflector type which came on early T4s, '97 onwards, and were standard on all or most S/V40s after 02-. There is a wiring harness specifically to convert over your headlights. Xenon kits are available from Volvo but as you can imagine they are very expensive. Try some scrap/breakers yards for them, you could be lucky. Alternatively you could fit an aftermarket kit.

The side lights bulbs can be changed for a brighter bulb which will give you a white look rather than the standard yellow glow. I'm sure there are threads about this topic so do a search and see what you get :-)

Hope that is of some help...

Fortunately I've bought the Europe version of the V40, so the dual headlights are already fitted. And luckily I've found a dealer who has Xenon kits nearby, so all I have to do is buy these kits (non-Volvo) and replace the halogen-bulbs.

Help is always welcome, Baffler, I already found several threads, but I've missed somehow the thread about changing the side lights bulbs...

Today I've been asked to help a friend of mine with changing the cablelooms in his Land Rover so my projects move to another time... And yes, my friend wants Xenon in his Land Rover, so I can do some exercise installing these kits...
