Default I need better mpg

Hi I have a 2012 XC 90 D5 AWD 200bhp SE LUX with 103k on clock
I regularly get 28mpg running about town and 35mpg on a good run at normal speeds so 21mpg is very poor for your car, mine has 6 speed auto box TF-80sc
i would have thought the 200bhp model would be worse on fuel very happy with mine my friend has similar car 6 months newer and he gets similar fuel consumption

I have a 2010 Polestar and get around 30-32mpg on my 30 mile drive to work on A/B roads.

Checked timing yesterday. It was spot on according to marks but half a tooth out using the pins so now adjusted to near perfection....

Engine sounds smoother and car accelerated quicker... had a few short runs but now averaging 10l per 100kms around town so a little better... I expect it will need a bit of time to improve further...

Still have heavy steering so need to pull solenoid from rack... has anyone done THIS?...
