Looks awesome John!

I have always thought cruise control would be very nice to have on a 240, must make effortless work of hilly motorways.

Lots of nice other toys too - must have as much on as the Merc?

Definitely a bargain for £450!

Does the air-con work and has it been converted? What about cruise? Looks like it had cruise fitted waaay back in Germany! Those LED ambient temperature gauges are very rare and fetch a fainting price on eBay US!

What's up with the washer exactly? I noticed it has black wiper arm boots, not to common now-a-days!

Look forward to the updates!

Darren

I don't know about the A/C or cruise. I didn't try them on the way home because I didn't want to give the car the slightest excuse to break down before I've done a full check and the overdue maintenance. I expect both systems to need attention.

The ambient temp gauge works though!

The washer is a real bodge. It's completely the wrong item for the car, but instead of just getting the correct part, someone has made some weird spacer to go underneath to get the washer nozzle to the right angle. It will be in the bin before long.

John

I don't think that's factory cruise (not that that makes it any less appealing). The factory kit used controls (with a single 'set' button, not up/down) on the indicator / main-beam stalk, very similar to a 7/940.

Looks like a very tidy car, and the colour is great!
...but for the love of all that is holy, get rid of the IIIIIIINNNNNNGEEEEEERRRRRRLAAAAAAND stickers ASAP!

cheers

James

Haha, yes indeed. The stickers will fall victim to the heatgun first thing tomorrow morning.

Yeah, I agree, the cruise looks to be an aftermarket item, but seems good quality.

TBH, the car is not as tidy as it looks in the photos. Lots of fading and scratches on the paint, but some flatting and buffing will have it looking good. It is a very good base to start from, and for the money...

The cruise is definitely not factory! Volvo cruise came on the indicator stalk and the stalk itself is more or less a reversal of the wiper stalk on Wagons (picture attached)! Useless fact for you, but the text for cruise control (set speed, resume, on/off) was printed in English for all countries!

After-market cruise control has been available for a long time... I see it installed in various 80s imports in the junkyards. Even saw a late 70s 244 GL with cruise once!

If your air-con needs converted to R34a you can still buy a kit for it.

Oh, and a 240 on the highway with cruise... is a dream!

As far as I'm aware, pretty much all US-spec 240s (certainly later ones) had cruise and AC...so a potentially useful source of parts? I remember reading that the factory cruise control is considered unreliable!

cheers

looks really good john! makes me miss my car so so much! although mine was nowhere near as nice as this one!!

can't wait till my easter holidays so i can attack it!! those wing mirrors look awful!... as does the overall finish! dont like the wiper arm boot/cover things! naff helfrauds ones by the looks! wheels need a nice scrub and polish. brakes need painting... on it goes haha

heres some pics of a similar car in a not so nice colour in the same spot

i reckon you have a much better base car (forgetting the extra spec) than mine so will inevitably turn out to be a superior car after some work.

Nick

John, Awesome looking car. Its the same colour as mine (previously Kev 240's). Likewise it started off in Germany. The colour is fantastic when polished up. Enjoy the car.

Cheers
