Exclamation Wanted: 740/760 turbodiesel manual

Looking for a turbo diesel 740/760, saloon or estate.
Must be a manual gearbox.
Must run and drive, but I'm competent with a welder and a socket set if it needs some work. an MOT would be ideal.
Not fussed about location too much, but the closer to Winchester, the better.

I cannot recall a single 740 diesel in the for sale sections in 2015. 1-2 940s per month show up on a well known auction site so I think you will have to settle for a 900 or face a rather long wait.
There is what seems to be an excellent car on gumtree; 96, auto 110k, well worth the trip to West Lothian.

Yeah, spotted that one and considered it but can't find a gearbox, flywheel, clutch or propshaft

If you extend your search to include 940's then you get something a lot quicker, especially if you want to narrow it down to a manual. 900 TD's are on the web sites every few weeks at all sorts of prices.

There are fewer 700 TD's around because Volvo sold fewer of them in the first place.

Would a 900 series manual box, prop and flywheel fit a 700 derv?

If the gearbox/prop/flywheel had come off a 940 TD, then the answer is yes. Early 940's had the same gearbox as 740/760 ie. M46.

If they had come of a 940 red block then the answer is no.

It's all about bolt patterns for the bell housing as they are different
