Can anyone tell me where about behind the wing the ballast sits? I have had a quick look and can't see anything obvious. Is it all the way up by the window wiper plastic tray?

Not sure on this but I bet they're somewhere around the light area itself either underneath the slam panel or at the very front of the wings themselves.

Actually, easiest way to find them would be trace the wiring loom back from the plug that goes into the light connection. Must come from the ballast itself.

Have you actually removed the the WHOLE Plastic section under the Wheel arch? After removing the wheel , look up to the front of the car (1 o'clock ish O/S...) roughly the same height as the headlight would be. It's the aluminium part (100×70 just a guess ) Do a search for ballast in images

No haven't taken the wheel arch lining off. I didn't compute "plastic section" in the previous posts as the wheel arch lining but it makes perfect sense now. Did call volvo who wanted 300 quid out of me for the part. Does anyone have a part number for this ballast so I can exchange the units while I have the wheel arch lining off... or is there an online parts catalogue for Volvo? I know you can buy a mod kit but not sure how that would look in situ..

The numbers on both my original Ballasts are 1 307 329 098.(06 plate) There are equivalent numbers, as they are fitted to other make VW etc. I paid around £85 +post from Germany but was NEW. Watch out though, nearly everyone else want More for USED. I did say that someone is selling a mod kit, but would be interested if it's plug/play ?

Forgot. The diagram doesn't show the ballast, as it's not part of the headlight.

Thank you both, that parts catalogue is awesome! I have seen the mod kits but not convinced they are plug and play... May have to do so cutting and soldering of the wires to make them work... Not that I have a problem with that, just easier if it's plug and play

The guy on eBay who is selling the mod kit is just selling you the ballast and igniter replacement for 35 quid. You can buy a full hid kit for d2s that includes 2 of each plus bulbs for 35 quid.. Exact same make / setup so I may go down this route instead and then sell all my working components on eBay so I should be in profit by a fair few pound.

I'm not sure if it's not plug/play.They have had pos feedback on all the mod kits they've sold. This includes Volvo, and other makes like Mercs. I'm sure they wouldn't get pos FB if there were too many alterations involved. Anyone on here bought a mod kit ??????
Not sure if I've seen a kit using D2S bulbs ..
