USB Unreadable

I have just upgraded from an iPhone 6S to a Galaxy S8. I could play music/make bluetooth calls with the iPhone, but to my surprise when plugging in the S8, it says USB Unreadable. It charges and I can still make bluetooth calls, but I have no ability to play music.

I'm guessing/hoping this is a common issue, with an easy solution..?

I have an MY10 XC90 Executive if that helps.

Galaxy S8 is USB c - don't know if this is anything to do with anything

Your old iPhone emulated an iPod for the Volvo - so worked no problem.
Your new Android phone can behave in a few different modes, and likely is acting like a USB stick and not working (I haven't checked if there's a way to make it emulate an iPod).

A simple solution may be to use your old phone for music only.
My 2013 has streaming bluetooth audio, so my situation is different.
I still use my old iPhone as an iPod, permanently connected to the USB port (I have my iTunes library on it and offline mode Amazon Prime Music).

It takes some work, a custom cable (or dongle) needs to be created - it is not plug and play.
