Default Interior Cleaning

I'm in the process of restoring and recolouring the leather interior of my 164. Now that I've done that, it makes the felt faced magazine racks (which fit on the rear of the front seats) look really dirty. I've tried cleaning them with carpet cleaner and washing powder but not much success. Anyone have any experience of cleaning these?

I've not got those sort of things in mine but have heard a clothes shaver (de-piller i think they're called) can work wonders to take off the very ends of the pile that tends to be the dirtiest bit. Try it on a hidden part first just in case though!

Alternatively these people might have something useful :

Felt faced? Not seen those before- photo please! My 164 has the usual string bag type of map pockets on the rear of the front seats.
A carpet cleaning detergent would be best, they often come in a plastic bottle with attached brush. A suede brush may also help to get the nap back.

I've been having a think about this and i've come up with something that may be a nice solution :

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FIRE-RETA...53.m1438.l2649

The felt was probably intended to emulate suede way back when the 164 was new so that might be a very good match for what you're looking for. If you're revamping the leather seats and making them look new as well, some new magazine/map pockets wouldn't look out of place despite the car being nearly 50 years old.

I don't know about anyone else but i for one would like to see some photos of this original 6-pot Volvo - if memory serves the 164 was the first 6 cylinder Volvo had produced?

It's a shame Volvo only offered the part leather - was full leather ever an option?

Almost all 164s were 'full leather'; a few early examples had fabric seats. OK, the backs of the sears were vinyl but that's oft the case on areas that don't take much wear.

Perhaps we are talking about the same thing. Not perhaps felt but can't think of the correct term

That looks like crushed velour aka Dralon or suedette/faux suede to me - difficult to be 100% sure as you can't get a feel of the texture from a photo.
