Default Diesel Death

Are we now seeing the death of oil burners in the next few years or is it just rumours. Reason for the post is that I wanted a petrol XC60 T5. Found one. I would have liked a T6 XC60 or XC90 T6 but they are like hens teeth. I believe that more petrol engines will be available in the next few years. My petrol XC60T5 has gone up in price by £2k since purchased at the start of 2016. My XC60T5 has the Ford engine with power shift box. Getting 36 mpg so very pleased as not bothered about mpg. More interested in the cr@p that diesel engines put out.

There isnt enough gasoline to run all the vehicles in the world so diesels wont die before it becomes all electric

watch this then youll apreciate them more

They may well bring restrictions in certain city centres, eg only Euro 5/6/7 but it will be a long time before they ban diesels fully. It just wouldn't work. Lots of rumours but they're rather exaggerated.

This will take over very soon

How can the BBC block youtube? That they can restrict their own content is understandable
Anyway: Try a proxyserver from another country

5cilinder , the two stroke looks overly complicated way around the problem , there are diesels presently working as dual fuel engines right now . ECU provides enough injection of diesel for ignition & addition ecu bleeds LPG into the inlet air stream & this is burnt when the diesel ignites . Many trucks have this system fitted , greatly reducing exhaust pollution , quieter , cheaper fuel .

No one interested in a safe family car likes the idea of driving around with a fuel tank of a potentially explosive liquid.

Obviously the low fuel prices have resulted in a loss of interest in diesel cars to some extent, but that will change when the price a fuel goes back up.

Read the website in depth
The engine is much lighter ,cheaper and simpler (no valvetrain ) they have tested and delivered the technology to fairbanks diesel and the us military.
While dual fuel in fourstroke is good, dual fuel in opposed piston 2 stroke is better , higher powerdensity, quiter and more fuel efficient

I wouldnt be suprised that the engines will be licensed build by some major carmakers in the future

In the past the germans build one by junkers and the brits had the napier deltic train and the doxford shipengine and there was the commer opposed engine in trucks
But now with better injection systems the engine is much better
Also already are conventional single piston 2 stroke diesels in cargoships the most fuel efficient sofar

It was the opposed piston part that put me off the idea . I am aware of many opposed piston engines , many were plagued with oil consumption problems , engine noise & fuel consumption being greater than 4 stroke engines .

In the UK we had Rolls Royce K60 ( no longer in use ) Leyland L60 ( used in Chieftan tank ) same again & lets not forget the Napier deltic engine , firstly as a marine engine & later as motive power for trains .

All those engines were pain to build & service and now conventional layout 2 & 4 stroke engines reign supreme . The number of gears used to link all the reciprocating parts are fine until wear occurs , then compression & timing and therefore efficiency begin to decline .
