Default 850 Starter Motor - removing - what next?

I'm trying to remove the starter motor on '93 850GLT Manual. (engine still in car)

Have undone the 2 bolts to the bellhousing at front of starter & the bolt on the rear bracket to engine block.
Have removed electric cables to solenoid.

Tried a few heavy taps with hammer and block of wood - no movement!!

Any advice on what next ?

I don't think I've missed any more bolts

Cheers Richard

Richard,

The starter is located with a dowel pin into the bellhousing as well as two bols and the rear bracket. The dowels can be quite tight if there is any corrosion present.

Thanks Brian
Turned out I'd removed the "wrong" second bolt (Doh !!!)
For the benefit for any that follow....
2x 14mm bolts (and a dowel) are located at the flywheel end of the starter motor: one on top & easy to see, the other in a recess immediately behind the hydraulic clutch actuating arm.

I missed this second one, having taken out a 14mm bolt from under the starter, which turned out to be a bell housing bolt!
With the bolt also removed from the rear bracket-to-engine-block, the starter falls away .....

PS Another thing I found out that I wish I'd known at first (the Haynes Manual only talks about the starter motor from an engine out point).
I removed the radiator fan to gain access. This is held on by 4 torx screws, with the bottom ones difficult to access.
However you only need to loosen the bottom 2, not remove them completely, as the fan casing is slotted (i.e. not holes) to allow it to be pulled up & out.

Anyway, starter motor & solenoid now stripped, cleaned, greased, re-assembled & back in the car. And the short "squeal" heard when starting now gone.

I'd prob. recommend fitting a re-cond starter unit to someone doing this job, but I couldn't get one this (sunday) morning, and a few smears of grease were a lot cheaper!
Richard
