Default Rusty Radiator Bolts

A warning to anyone who may have to remove a radiator on their V70 in the future. Keep the two mounting bolts well oiled!
I had to repair the near-side headlamp wiper motor (water had got into it and had seized all the nylon cogs. Strange, but true), which entails moving the radiator slightly before removing the wiper motor.
The radiator mounting bolts are secured with captive ‘nuts’ attached to the mounting brackets on each side of the radiator. Even though I applied liberal amounts of WD40 to the threads of the bolts, I suffered the experience of the N/S captive nut coming adrift from its bracket as it had seized onto the bolt. Fortunately, there was just enough room to get an electric drill down through the space between radiator, battery, headlamp and hoses, so I was able to drill through the seized nut.
These ‘nuts’ are circular, so you can’t get a spanner or even Molegrips on them, so if they are seized there’s a pretty good chance they are going to snap off their mountings.
Keep them greased, chaps!

Regards,
Steve.
