Default 850 rear main oil seal

Hi! well, they say things come in three........

In the past year, I've had to repair check strap, replace a/c evaporator, and now the rear main oil seal is leaking!!!

Well bugger sending it to a garage (i did the evaporator myself in 8 hours - not as difficult as peoplesay.........)

So anyone done this job? Car is a 1995 ('96MY) 2.5 10v auto.

My experiences with the evap would say its not that bad - as car is 'quality' and things will come apart and fit back together ok.

But i really dont fancy doing it without advice first. Oh well, atleast the parts are cheap, unlike the a/c!!

Thanks,

Kevin

ps - i took some photos when i did a/c and wrote a few things down if anyone interested

I think I've got an evap unit to change myself next spring - any help and piccies much appreciated !

Re your rear oil seal ...

According to Haynes it can be done by simply removing the gearbox and flywheel, prise out the old one, and pop a new one in ! I'd also recommend cleaning the crankshaft before fitting the new seal ...
Probably take about 5-6 hrs if doing it the road with std tool kit + clutch alignment tool ... if you can change an evap unit you can definitely do this .

Brgds

Excuse my ignorance, but where exactly is the rear main oil seal?
I know that it is expensive and involved to change but not where it is.
Also are there any sites that give pictures of works. I have the Bay 13 site, any others

rear main oil seal on end of crankshaft. With gearbox out, it's behind the flywhee//drive plate.

Only costs about £11 !!!!!!!

I understand very prone to leaking - in the top 3 of common 850 faults.

I've seen nothing on Bay 13, but if you know where it is, I'd e grateful if you could point me in the right direction............
