Hello,

This a message of appreciation and thanks to the author of this guide. I have just changed the front and rear bushes using the two guides posted.

The problem with my 2000 S40 1.6 was that I could not engage 5th first time and it generally felt lose in selection. Now it's perfect.

I bought the bits for around £10 from here http://www.partsforvolvosonline.com/...oducts_id=4391 as recommened by another forum user (got some extra bits not for my car, but only used what i needed).

Job done!

Thanks!

If the above and this kit is not for a GDI engine Volvo, what can my problem be?

Regards.
the gdi and turbo models use a cable instead of a rod

Thank you very much for the info...
Got the gear lever sorted in a little under 10 minutes..with the use of the pit from work and the spares from Sunderland Volvo dealership at a cost of £19.82p.

Now feels like the car I bought 10 years ago...
(it still is the same car I bought new back in 98, but now feels a hell of a lot better - the porridge stirring gear lever has been like that for 4 Years... just got use to it...)

Smile Thank you very much...

...for this post. This has obviously taken you some effort to produce and I am grateful that you took that time to do it.

I'm off to get a kit/parts from GSF in Exeter tomorrow...

Just to say thanks! I have a haynes manuel but was still unsure about doing it myself, used your guide and had it done in moments! I agree that the front bushings have a much larger effect than the back ones!
Thanks again!

Mine seems to be a little different... maybe you guys can help.
Its strange, first thing in the morning it doesn't always want to go into any gear without a little persuasion, bu then for the remainder of the day after a little driving it is ok. I've started parking with it in gear to see if it makes a difference, but still unsure. The gear knob isn't slack in anyway, just the odd time it doesn't want to go into gear. Any ideas?
