Hoping to try and do brakes at the weekend if possible.

Just so everyone know Bob has kindly helped putting these into the Articles section so you can see them there too if you like.

Thanks

James

I'm still new to Volvo's and smitten with the best and most economical car
(V40 1.9D) I've ever owned.
I was amazed at how straight forward you made the gear bushes look especially with the photo's. I know where to look when the time comes

I too would to interested in the brake disk and pad guide with tools needed and lots of photo's and promise to use them when the inevitable time comes.

Thanks very much.

My pads don't really need doing and at £20+ I think I'll skip it. Instead, I can do one of two things, either

a) Point you at a guide I did for another car which will be pretty similar
b) Do a guide stripping down the bits then putting them back together on the Volvo but don't actually change anything

I guess the preference is option b, let me know

I'm afraid other commitments mean I can't hang around on here much now but I'll still post guides when I do work on the car - hope you guys don't mind me just descending and putting guides on at random intervals.

As promised, here's the brakes:

Sorry it took so long.

Too many engines to build and not enough time ...

Good job on the guides. Catflem is right. These are just what you need to get started in doing your own maintenance. I've got bored of pouring money down my local Volvo dealer and these guides show just how easy it is to do yourself!

I was going to do some guides myself, but it appears you've beaten me to it. I'm planning to do rear discs and pads on my T4 sometime this week, (saving myself at least £100 in the process) and judging by the guide for the fronts it shouldn't be too tricky.

BTW... Anyone looking to do their own servicing might like to check out the Wheeler Dealers TV series. They do loads of jobs like discs, plugs, exhausts, gear linkages, suspension bushes, etc with lots of little tips and tricks.

Glad you like them, if anyone does any more guides thrown them in here by all means. Hopefully I'll be able to edit the first post at some point and link them all from there

Perhaps the mods can make a 'How-To' sub forum where all these guides can reside as a point of reference for all S40 owners?

Now, if only someone would post one for changing the top engine mount ...

Thanks again.
which one needs changing i've just done the drivers side(offside)

I would start a new topic in the tech section for your problem..
Not to clog this post up with unrelated stuff...

Smile I agree

Every car I have owned I needed to learn the peculiarities of the make/model. Forums like this, especially the 'how to' guides are invaluable. just got a V40 and wanted to do the usual - change oil, filters etc.............found these guides an invaluable help and much clearer than struggling to make sense of the Haynes descriptions and photos.
Keep up the good work. Thanks to all.
