Default Brakes + wheel bearing

Hello,

From replies to a previous email I've decided it's time to get some new discs and pads at the rear due to corrosion on the discs.

I've seen numerous emails in the past about different makes of these, but without having to trawl through them all again is the overall verdict that volvo parts are the ones to stick with ? If so do you have to go to a dealer to get these or can you get them via one of the part outlets ?

Also I've just done 1k miles last week on hols and the car has developed a droaning noise from about 40mph upwards which really gets in your head after a while. Could this be a wheel bearing and if so is there a way to check further ?

Cheers,

Craig

Craig,

I renewed the pads and discs all round on my T5 recently. I went through Eurocarparts who have a good web site and got all the parts for less than half what I'd have paid at Volvo. The pads were made by Textar and the discs original equipment.

The only thing I would say is that after fitting the rear pads I could not get rid of an annoying rear brake squeel until I fitted shims which I obtained from Volvo at about £7. Otherwise I am completely satisfied with the parts I got.

Good luck.

Hello Duncan,

Any idea on the price you paid for the discs and pads ? Mine's only a 2.0, but it gives me some indication.

Cheers,

Craig

Hi ya,

make sure that when you buy them you buy all ATE as they are original OEM supplier. I had textar, warped the fronts in 6 months and the back in under a year from europarts. The shims do make a lot of difference.

Another one when buying your wheel bearings make sure they have the right number of lugs holes as when i purchased mine i had one 4 and one 5 lugged version!!!! even in the right packaging. You don't get a new NUT for the wheel and bearing grease though. With the Volvo kit i eventually had for the one side its all in. The prices difference was noticeable.

I now go to Volvo as a whole and use the bit of discount i get lucky as i slowly renovate my car....

mark.

My S70 has started making this same droaning noise, the car has just passed 55000 miles and Volvo did some minor work on some rod or other at the front a few weeks ago, anyone any ideas, I have checked tyre pressures etc.
