Default Fuel Consumption

Could I ask owners of petrol 850 estates (except the high performance brutes) what fuel consumption they get, please.

I have seen 30mpg suggested in publications such as 'Parkers'

Is this a real-life, day to day figure?

Your experience and/or opinions will be welcomed.

Thanks

Alan

I'll reply even if I do have a 'high performance' volvo. Around town you get miserable MPG - all those short trips, stopping and starting, short bursts of high accelleration. I don't even bother to work it out as I'd rather not know. However, get on a good run and keep your speed sensible and you can easily get 30+MPG. On a trip of 150 miles with an average speed of 70 and odd periods of slightly higher than that ;) I get about 31/32 MPG.

For a 1992 2.5 GLT auto - 28mpg around town, 33mpg on motorway cruises.

These are best figures, but they don't drop too much below that unless you're lead footing it.

On the 850R - don't ask...

On an 855R Auto its like this......... OH MY GOD NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!

Mine works out to be 20 - 25 consistently, NEVER more and only occasionally less, depending on road and right foot.

I drive an 850 T5 Auto with no modifications and get between 25-30 depending how hard I drive it. Ok, if I'm honest my right foot is rather heavy but it is loads of fun & a shame not todrive it like it was meant to be driven!

My 92 850 2.0 20v gave 26 around town & 32 on a run. However, my 98 S70 2.5 20v auto is only giving 22 around town, although the 'naughty' computer tells me I'm getting 26mpg (I reset it when I fill the tank up too !)

Has anyone else had this problem & are the previous figures quoted above based on the trip comp. or your own calcs ?

Cheers,

John.

Mav,

Nope...... just drive near petrol stations a lot :'(

Seriously though, since the bleed valve & the panel filter change the very best I've ever had out of this motor (following a waggon at 55 from Swindon to Milton Keynes) was 26.5 mpg so I don't expect much from it !!

I do have a theory though..... if you want big mpg don't buy things that do big mph.... coz that doesn't work :+

One good point tho, she does the same avg mpg at 90 as she does at 60.... so why bother with 60 ? }>

May have to give her up soon though.... kinda sad really :'(

Cheers,
Jim

1996 850 2.5l 10v
Around town with lots of welly at the traffic lights....25mpg
Motorway runs at 70mph (honest I don't go at 85mph) just over 30mpg.
(All based on non-digital trip meter and petrol pump dispense).

N reg 850 estate 2.5 10V consistenly gives 31-33, driving includes 40 miles of motorway @75-80 + town driving for 10 miles. Trip to france on autoroutes fully laden with kids and pod gave similar mileage, never below 30mpg, this was driving at 80-85 on motorway in France. Engine now has 80000, FVSH when I bought it of a friend. Super car.
