Default Vernier Pully Issue

Hi All,

I'm new to the web site and any help would be greatly appreciated and I'll try to be involved in the forums where possible.

I think I have a problem with the CAM pully based on reading other posts, and would like to ask a couple of basic questions.

I have had the rattle or brrr brrr sound coming from my engine top end for a week or so, it's fine when over 1500 rpm but worse when at idle. A local garage listened to the engine and advised a new oil filter and engine flush to see if it stops the rattle. My question is that at £50 for this, would I be better asking them to look at the pully first as I cant see an engin flush fixing this if thats what it is or would it??

If it is the pully, how much should I be looking at paying and is there any other reason (tappets maybe) that could be causing this?

Many Thanks

Lee

Hard to say but £50 isn't too bad, unless you can do the work yourself of course and even if you can it wont be much cheaper than £50...
I'd go for that, then if you still have the problem ask them to knock the £50 off the cost of checking out the pulley?

Thanks Enigma,

I'll try that and let you know if it sorts it. Just wondering if you know, is the pully oil operated? from the one I looked at they just seem like a cog? Apologies if thats a stupid question, never really touche the timing components in the past.

Thanks

Not sure to be honest with you, my guess would be they are a 'cog' and driven off the timing belt (but I may be wrong)
