The smaller fuel tank will be adequate though , you should be doing well over 100 mpg you see . If you aren't , then you have chosen the wrong car for your type of journeys ...

The LPG volvos of 15 years ago had smaller fuel tanks and it was no hardship .

They quote 100mpg but let's be honest it won't do anywhere near that in the real world. I seem to recall Top Gear tested one and found the mpg was around half the amount suggested by Volvo.

Never in a million years will you get 100mpg in real world conditions.
On another volvo forum, One T8 owners who charges the car every night and drives normally reports an average of 45mpg.

Didn't they have 2 fuel tanks though?

The T8 replaces 5 gallons of petrol with 25 miles of electric power I think. It's OK if you don't mind stopping at garages a lot. Can be an issue in the Highlands where fuel stations can be few and far between with no 24 hour opening either. Still I guess you wouldn't get one if you travelled around there much.

you are probably not familiar with
how these hybrids work and the best way to utilise all the gathering and harvesting options .. I know of 2 V60 D6 which are averaging 140 ish mpg as they are being used in conditions which the hybrid is suited for , If all you do is drive up and down motorways yes you will get the normal fuel consumption of a D5 or which ever internal combustion engine is fitted ie 40 something mpg . charging it every night would help but the main work is done whilst driving around ..
It is obvious that "CAR" don't understand how to drive a hybrid either when they say " Yes, we’re minded to agree with you. Our own Volvo V60 Plug-in Hybrid test car has a similarly sky-high 149mpg claim and we’ve been averaging mid-40s, or 60s if we drive really carefully." It isn't about driving really carefully !

Trouble is that a lot of people buy and use Volvos as comfortable long distance cars and don't use the hybrid in conditions that are ideal for them.
For work in town I've always used a bike and the big Volvo only comes out for family and long trips. Any Volvo I buy has to be an all rounder so I can see unless they up the battery capacity a hybrid wont be for me especially as my holidays usually mean long journeys in sparse filling station areas.

This is only the start really , early days ... there is lots more coming with electric power in the next 5 years , volvo are working on new battery types and integrating them into body panels for example .. It is the future for sure ... Volvo had a fleet of Pure electric C30's running around sweden about 5 years ago , now we have the T8 .. what will be here in 2021?
