Strangely everywhere except Australia where it is 250Kg, and the XC90's limit is doubled to 180Kg. I *think* that in Australia the nose weight has to be a minimum of 7% of the trailer weight.

The 150 Kg limit is because that's what Land Rover rate their tow bars for. I guess there are stronger tow bars around if you can find them. It can be hard to find the maximum nose weight of trailers though.

I have never heard of anyone getting pulled over a subsequently prosecuted for excess nose weight. For me it comes down to what you said earlier about common sense when loading and setting up etc. - the nose weight is just the static load when stationary which is actually almost irrelevant compared to the nose weight dynamic load that will be exerted under heavy braking.

I met admit static nose weights have always seem strange as people say . Surely if you have a 3500kg trailer on the tow bar. You would have transient loads of 10 to 20 times the static one!

It's important for towing stability. Too light or too heavy and the trailer and vehicle will be unstable. It can be adjusted obviously but you need to do a calculation based on the axel load weight limit to ensure that isn't exceeded in the process. Some useful information here.... Except the web site modifys the address when I post it so it won't display hitch correctly because it has an s before it! Look up Eyers Hitch.
