Fixed: non-functioning power windows
'98 V70
Rear n/s window non-functional on either switch (failed when down, of course). Replaced motor (not an easy job), worked for a while then stopped. Suspected electrics, maybe connector. Then driver's window packed up (failed when down, of course). Tested motor with made-up lead (with plug connector and croc clips) which was ok. Could hear clunk from relay within switch, so suspected fault there (presumed relay sensing overload & cutting power or something). Ckecked out replacements, around £70 after-market job, or £40 used on Ebay. Did search on repair and found these instructions at http://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/for...hp?f=1&t=38245 (or search using +v70 +"Drivers door power window switch repair"). Opened switch & gently cleaned dust and other crud using toothbrush dipped in contact cleaner (I'd have used meths if I know where it was). Slide plastic bushes back & forth under contacts to open & close to allow brush to get in there. Reassembly fiddly only due to sprung poles fitted into buttons: just take it easy and they'll fit. Refitted, both windows now work. |

Glad you got it sorted the cheap way!

Turns out not so much...
Some improvement, but it looks like it may be significantly due to a duff door lock. How I prefer cars with simple wiring. Get a multimeter on it and you soon find out what's up. Digital comms are all very well, until they fall over, then you're at the dealer's mercy @ $$$.
