Does anyone know if I can download/update apps on my xc 40 using my home wifi rather than using the cars?

I certainly can on my XC60 and the XC40 manual suggests the same. Go to

Settings > Communication > Wifi and search for your home network. You may have to put a "tick" in the WiFi box.

I did have to change the security settings on my WiFi but that wasn't an issue.

One thing I did notice was that the car was showing as connected to my wifi but the Download Centre was saying it *wasn't* connected, which was highly frustrating. This was seemingly cured when I parked a little closer to the router on one occasion, and has now become a non-issue.

A bit of advice would be that if you're planning on updating the map, buy a big USB stick (I got a 64Gb one). The map update for my car was in the order of 52Gb and I'd hate to be stuck in the car trying to update that wirelessly.
