Forgot to mention.....

I gave myself one of these for Christmas, didn't get around to installing until late May! I got the one with the microphone, which lives to the side of the sun visor. Once I had figured out how to access the "external CD player" (press and hold the CD button) it just worked. Excellent stuff.

Thanks for this. How did you route the mic wire?

While I had the centre console with the HU "out" I removed the fuse cover panel by the drivers door, and the footwell panel (the one you just tug off after undoing two screws). Then fed the 3.5mm jack end through the fuse panel opening down into the footwell, across the footwell, then used an unbent coat hanger and stuck the wire to it, poking this up into the cavity behind the centre console, and plugged it in. The other end I pulled off the door trim and fed the wire up inside it, so just a short bit of wire at the top to the mic. I haven't yet stuck it in place, but the "sticky plate" will slot under the visor clip and stay there - for a while. You can barely see it when the visor it up.

My radio is a HU850.

Cheers, Luke.
Theres 2 connectors, i believe one goes to amp which is under the drivers seat.

Do I need to disconnect the battery before installing? It's an s60 2005 manual.

I didn't, but did have ignition off, keys out. Only had to pull the centre console out a bit to get hand in to plug in the BT unit and find a space for it below

IIRC the socket was on the bottom left corner (or bottom right if you imagine looking from the back)

knowing that do you even need to take the radio out, can't you just reach up from below and get it in? (with a/c unit out) or is it just too tight

anyway... the only warning I always add is DON'T UNPLUG YOUR AC / HEATING UNIT! unless you like SRS warning messages on your dash. I think the fault can be avoided by having battery disconnected, if that's what you mean. but disconnecting the panel isnt necessary, just dont let it stress the cable and connector when hanging to one side

I did my mic. as above but in reverse. i.e plugged into head unit and then threaded it through the other way. gravity meant i didn't need a coathanger, the gap is huge, it just drops through. and mine has a little metal clip, i just used that to attach to roof lining kind of hidden behind the mirror

I can't remove the head unit. Removed two torx on the bottom but pulling from the bottom top won't come out. Don't want to rip something out. I'm puzzled. In the videos it seems to come out easily.
