2009 C70 Roof Not Working

Hi,

I recently bought a 2009 C70. The roof was working and now isn't. Having read the forum, it seems like this is quite rare.

When I press the roof release button, I hear the motor running in the rear and then nothing happens, maybe at a push the roof partially unlatches.

When I press the roof close button, it takes a while and I eventually get the "Roof closed" message.

I have tried disconnecting the battery.

Firstly, is there a simple way to reset the roof mechanism?

Secondly, I saw mention of a flowchart of the various sensors on this site and expected readings from a multimeter. Or am I best to get someone with Volvo diagnostics to plug it in (I'm assuming a regular garage's diagnostics wouldn't identify roof faults).

check the roof pump fluid level and check there is no water in the boot only top quality diagnostics can read the roof module... ps the pump is under the boot carpet. its important to clean and lubricate all the roof seals and pivot points there is a pdf document on roof service its also better to have the engine running when operating the roof always do full cycles never change direction once you have started lowering or raising and listen for the chime and message on the dim

I have taken up the boot floor and found the pump. How do I check the fluid level?

The unlatching you describe happens very early in the sequence, before the roof starts to move. I had a similar problem, replaced the boot latch motor and all is good now.

It’s worth a try as a first step, the motor is inside the boot lid and much easier to access than all the hydraulic bits that drive the rams that control the latter stages of the roof folding.

After a waste of money at my local Volvo "specialist" who didn't even attempt to replicate the issue and simply just plugged in and told me the yellow switch in the boot was faulty (it wasn't).

The issue was in fact Hydraulic pressure and a roof re-learn required. I don't mind paying money if an issue gets diagnosed and sorted properly. Cayman Autos in Surrey had it diagnosed the same afternoon and repaired the following morning.
