Default Clutch replacement parts query

Just back from a caravan trip..... (my previous thread was full of woes! lol)

I smoked my clutch getting on to a pitch, uphill and in reverse. Not a great combination, but all was fine after I let it cool down, and plonked it on without issue.

My clutch 'bite' is quite high, and on the return journey from Cornwall to Merseyside, along A roads, up hills and down dales etc, the 1st gear pull away began to judder, just a little at the very top of the bite. No other issues of slipping etc.

Me being me, ill get a new clutch in it. Its done 125,000 miles probably on the original clutch.

Is it better to get the DMF and clutch all done at once..... or just open it up and see whats what ?

Any suggestions for a decent one - heavy duty etc, or just get Volvo ?

The car is a 2008 185 Manual BTW.

Respect to all

Hi mate, put a clutch, DMF and concentric slave cylinder in while its all apart as the labour is not cheap and you will not want to pay twice. Dave

At the minute you'd be hard pushed to find a clutch kit and flywheel cheaper than from Volvo themselves. Less than £500 for a 3 piece clutch kit and dual mass flywheel for a D5. The flywheel costs that alone from a motorfactors.

is it euro4 d5 clutch kit including DMF for less than £500 at the dealers you suggesting? If so the price is very good. Bear in mind euro3 d5 DMF wont fit to euro4.
When I had to replace mine I purchased DMF and slave cylinder on its own and the clutch kit I bought from Germany. It was reinforced clutch suitable for stage 1 remaps. Clutch disk also had 4 springs which is great advantage to take some stress off of DMF and the whole transmission. I could feel no vibrations at all, very smooth gear switching.

The price I quoted was for Euro 3, but Volvo are doing a deal on all clutch kits and flywheels at the minute.

I'm looking to do the same work soon.
I also have a 2008 D5 185 - currently 600 miles from home with a large caravan and a worryingly high bite point! No judder pulling away yet! (Car is on 161k miles).
I already have a new flywheel at home (long story) so will need a clutch kit. Is Volvo the best bet for that also?
I'm considering DIYing the job - done a V70 D5 before - is this practical or crazy?
Or, is this something I should pay an independent garage to do? I asked my local garage (who mostly does servicing and MOTs) about it a while ago, and he's not interested in doing the work.
I'd rather not pay Volvo labour rates...

I have a small gearbox leak from somewhere too - assume a drive shaft seal, not crawled under to investigate - but assuming it is, I assume it's easy enough to replace the seals while the 'box is out?

Thanks in advance!
Alan.

Volvo/Volvo Parts on eBay, do appear to be cheapest so far.

I would only buy a Volvo part or a Luk Clutch (as I understand they are a very good make). If I had to choose between the two, Volvo would get my money just because its original.
