Not sure how or why, perhaps rogue signals?????
What other sensors does the non genuine AQS sensor take out?????

Default AQS sensor

Hi guys, this may be of interest to you. I have a 07 plate (08 model year) volvo s60 2.5t se which I've had for 2.5 years now. A couple of months ago the Climate control started playing up, the passenger side worked fine but the drivers side would blow cold when I set the drivers temperature dail to anything below 25.
On having the ccm recalibrated at my local volvo specialist they found a code for the AQS sensor, and told me if the problem came back I'd need a new AQS sensor. Now like dwaine dibbley I always thought the AQS sensor had nothing to do with cabin temperature and it hasn't.
But a friendly volvo tech from my local volvo dealer explained to me that the whole car is networked, (canbus) so that all the systems on the car can talk to each other and also talk to the individual items in that system. So even though the AQS sensor has nothing to do with cabin temp, it being faulty can confuse the ccm module and cause all kind of problems.
So after hearing this I replaced my AQS sensor (£185 from volvo) and the fault that I had with my ccm disappeared.
Sorry for such a long post but as the s60 and xc90 share the same p2 platform, it may help others having trouble with ther ccm.

I can confirm that a non-Volvo AQS will take out:

Air Distribution Damper Motor module
Temperature Left Damper Motor module
Recurculation Damper Motor module

These all stopped working when my AQS failed and when I fitted a VW sensor, as shown in the photo above, they also stopped working. Just disconnecting the AQS brings them all back, so if you don't want to spend £205 to replace it with a genuine part, just remove it!

I think I have found the right part now. I think this is the OEM part but not branded Volvo.

https://cat.hella.com/web/public/hella/en/100000/$catalogue/2/$product/6PX%2B012%2B684-061_5750/datasheet.xhtml;jsessionid=495406B82321241ECF7856B 1851BD1B5

I bought one here

http://www.buycarparts.co.uk/hella/7915643

Just over 1/2 the Volvo price. I'll let you know if it works OK or not.
Hope that helps.

I haven't fitted it yet. I went on holiday the day before it arrived and I won't be home for another two weeks.

The sensor is nothing to do with your original fault , all it does is shut the recirculation flap when it detects smells .

But the incorrect part fitted does cause the symptoms described. It interferes with the bus.

i wouldn't know about that , but his first problem with blowing too cold one side has nothing to do with the AQS just about all the cars fitted with them over 8 years old have the AQS failed fault code and contunue to work properly . The fault is probably a faulty driver's side air temperature flap motor .

Agreed.
My AQS hasn't worked for about 3 years and everything is working normally apart from having no auto recirculation.
