Would this disconnecting the battery work on erasing the long term fuel trims?

Disconnect the battery by all means and reset the ECU but it will only drive ok if your lucky for about 10 miles then the problems will be back.

Just best to attack the problem for good.

Everytime the ECU is reset it has to get used to the way you drive again, so therefore you won`t get the best from the engine as it doesn`t know how you drive!

Hi Bongo - appreciate this was a posting from a longtime ago bu this is exactly the issue I have - erratic idle and stalling following a dead battery having been away on hols for a week. Do I need to do anything other than get some mile on the clock for it to re-learn its values?

960KG is right it doesn't reset anything for good.

srs airbag light can only be reset by a dealer, for safety reasons, clan a member on here knows alot about these sorts of things,

I disconnected the battery on the car on Saturday, and left it off for around 20 minutes. Afterwards i left the terminals together for about 5.

Reconnected everything and took the car for a drive. First 10 minutes was weird. Shifting was very hard in the autobox, but once it learned how the driving style is, everything was fine again.

Must admit, i think shifting is now allot smoother, 3 days later.

Car feels better. I think the ECU does get itself into a bit of a twist every now and then.

Tomorrow will try this. As for all I've been testing the engine light doesn't turn off.
I know the problem is from vacuo leek and a bad LPG system

You are in the wrong forum mate. Post in the S40/V50 forum and you should get an intelligent reply.

So does this way of resetting the ecu work? I am thinking about doing it as i am fitting a bit bigger turbo and 440cc injectors instead of the old 312.
