Default Exhaust Manifold bolt re-bore?

Hello again,

With your excellent help we managed to refit the new manifold, but now I've managed to shear one of the bolts off and it remains in the exhaust manifold causing the most horrendous amount of noise.

I've taken it to various re-bore places who've all told me that there's not enough room in these model Volvo's to reach the manifold with the drill. Now facing scrapping her of trying to vainly flog her which is obviously not what is wanted.

Do any of you clever people have any bright, alternative (and cheap!) ideas or is she a goner?

Many thanks

David

Is it a stud that has snapped off in the head? You'll need to remove the manifold and if some of the stud is still sticking out you could use the sort of stud extractor that fits on the end of a ratchet and bites onto the end of the stud. Failing that a 90 degree air powered drill should fit in there and then use a standard stud extractor.
If that doesnt work you'll need to remove the head to drill it out.

Can you post a pic showing the offending bolt/stud? If so, we might be able to suggest a repair procedure.

If you take the manifold off and a reasonable amount of stud is showing (say about 1cm or over) you could always file two flats on opposite sides and get a decent pair of mollys on it to turn it out.
