Hi Guys
What do you all make of this?

Also interesting is the link at the bottom regarding radio codes!

Hi Mike,

For 850's up to '95, the procedure is in the Haynes Manual anyway. I will happily e-mail you the procedure if you wish. However, yours is a '96 model and the procedure will be different although may still be covered in the Haynes - I'll check it out.

Re your motto:

In the case of my wife this would read:

For every solution, there's a problem. LOL, she really can be annoying at times!

Regards

Andy

Mike,

for a short period around model year 96/97 on the 850's Volvo altered the service light reset proceedure and it can only be done via the OBDII port. Before that it was via the diagnostic ports in the engine bay, after that by using the reset button on the speedo.

I think someone on these fora has made a DIY setup to allow the reset of the light with the OBDII port, alternatively, Volvo Owners Club hire at very reasonable rates a 'proper' reset tool to members of the club.

Hi Brian
Mines got the OBDII port under the coin holder, with the DIY setup do you know if the engine management light etc can be reset, as I was considering constructing one.

Mike,

sorry I'm not sure. There are loads of threads about OBDII so perhaps an evening of trawling through them's coming up!

Here's one of the longer more detailed threads to start you on.

Hope this gets you started.

The engine management light can be reset and the codes read with the LED reader. Nice little gadget.
I do believe the special tool is required to reset the service light, though you could always ask your local indy garage to reset it for the price of a pint.

I had just recon'd the cyclinder head on my 850 '96 model and had an engine management light staying on. Took it to the dealers and he showed me how to reset it. There is a rubber bung to the left of the speedo on the dash perspex. Lift that off and press the button behind it. Not sure if that reset my service light (as he did plug in some diagnostic tool) but the ECU light went off. Dont know if this helps but may be worth a try.

Hi everyone, I contacted the Volvo owners club who mailed me to say that they weren't able to supply a reset tool. Er, is it because I'm from the North? :-)

Ray,

What question did you ask and what model/year is your car?

The club have, or did have, a service light reset tool but not one for the engine management etc.
