Default New V40 1.9D Owner

I have just picked up a 2002 V40 1.9D, I have to say I am more impressed than I thought I would be, as I just wanted a small diesel estate to carry the dog when required and commute 100 miles a day on the M25.

The car has covered over 100,000 miles but has a full service history and plenty of parts replaced by RT mechanics over the last 2 years.

Now the only fault I can find is that acceleration below 2000 RPM is awful, scary awful when trying to accelarate onto a roundabout at 10/15 MPH in 2nd gear, there is nothing nothing nothing, then bang your off. I have owned various TDI's in the last 3 years and although below 1500 RPM most have nothing, between 1500-2000 they all offer some sort of go. Is this normal on the 1.9D 115? Or have a I got a fault maybe with the MAF?

It pulls hard all the way from 2000 RPM to 4000 RPM with a little noticeable power tail off between 4000 RPM to 4500 RPM as to be expected.

THee doesnt appeartobe anything wrong, i have just bought the samecar ( albeit a 51 plate) and there isnt a lot of power under 2k - 2.5k revs. But withit being a diesel, the power does tend to come in lumps lol.

f you are still concerned, check where where the plastic pipe from the intercooler connests to the throttle body and throttle postion sensor as mne has just snapped and this makes it run dog rough.. Although you will notice this as the car will not rev over 2k....

other than that i think its a fantastic car

I have had a 53 model 115bhp v40 tdi for 4 years. The problem that you describe has started happening on my car in the last few months. It is really bad when trying to start off going up hill.

Thanks graemedench for the tip about Millers Sport 4. I gave my car a double dose last week and the car is driving much better now. The power has returned below 2000rpm, plus there seems to be less noise and smoke from the engine.
