They're in a position designed to catch crud, like most convertibles, even with the rather prissy little prongs around the drain itself. It's also the season for blockages.

Glad you've got it fixed, let's hope it's the only source.

Tried the aircon while my fingers were in the vent under the driver's seat....the water humped out. I pulled the carpet back and put a hose down the AC drain tonight. It didn't seem blocked but couldn't tell as i couldn't get the right angle white plastic piece out, so ended up disconnecting it from I assume the aircon unit, and then connecting to a hose pipe. Tried the aircon after and no water came out of the vent.

In my case, the problem seems identical to the video link posted above.

Now going to check my rear seat area, but never noticed any problem there - my issue has been with the boot, where the spare wheel well has got wet for the last couple of years...
....my solution has been to use a couple of old bath towels to soak the water up - one sits double-folded under the spare wheel until thoroughly wet, then gets swapped for the dry one...
....though it doesn't help that opening the boot when wet always sees water drip in each side, I've long suspected the drain hoses to be the problem - but have not been able to gain access to them, as the trim at the sides is very reluctant to move...

Old-fashioned curtain rod-springy things (that you put nets on) used carefully should do the trick, but first get ano to pour water up top and see if it comes through underneath, just to see if that is the problem.

Remove square plastic trim clips, then remove rubber seal from around mouth of boot (lift up). Then the felt (or whatever it is) should peel back.

The 'felt' trim has a very stiff backing - though I can 'peel' it back along the main side areas after removing the clips and seal as described, the problem is toward the forward sections by the hinges and roof struts, exactly where the drain hoses are...
....I can only move the trim far enough there to expose the top couple of inches of the hoses...

Top tip! I have some old net curtain wire, and will try that - probably with an eye in the end to avoid snagging or pushing the blunt end through the tube wall...
....if there is gunge inside, some judicious twisting of the eye-ended wire will hopefully help clear it!

Go gently, mind, and be prepared to chop the eye off and tape the end up if it's too wide bore for the drain tube.

Anyone who used to run an MX5 means clearing rear drains is second nature...

Yeah, I couldn't get it completely away either - again the pic upthread shows how much I managed to peel it back.

I found it was still possible to remove / re-install the tubes with only those couple of inches, it's just a bit of a fiddly job, you have to thread the tube behind the metal bracket that's restraining the felt...

The foam under the carpet on the driver's side (front and rear) was absolutely dripping wet. Probably > 5 litres in the foam then I removed another 3 litres or so from the floor pan!

I'm going to drive it around with no carpet and half of the interior trim missing for the next week or so while the carpet dries indoors. Hopefully having a relatively bare interior will help me spot where the water is coming in from...
How is the water problem now?
Would you be able to do a very brief guide on removing the rear carpets? I had a quick look today and even had trouble disconnecting the electrics to the seat, never mind the centre console side plastics and rear seat.
Many thanks if you can do.

I will see if I can write something up when I get a chance. Unfortunately I didn't get many photos.

I would strongly advise you get a trim tool like this, it will make things easier and re-fitting is nearly impossible without one:

In terms of the seat electrics, they are all one big plug. There isn't a push clip or whatever, you need to wind out the bolt with the spring on it that comes out of the plug. I'd advise disconnecting battery negative first.

If you want to know how to remove the rear seat bench (you'll need to remove this) then there are a couple of vids on Youtube. You don't need any tools but there is very much an art to unclipping it.
