Fuse, Relay, Switch and Solenoid. Fuse is in fuse tray, as is relay. Switch is on gear lever with indicator light on instrument panel (in row of check lights) and the solenoid is on the side of the overdrive unit. Switch is tricky but may be just a wire fallen off. Solenoid controls the overdrive by opening two ports to allow the fluid to complete the shifting arrangement. Sometimes , if it appears to be the solenoid (other items OK), the ports get blocked with muck but can be cleaned out with the solenoid removed. It would be worthwhile replacing the two o-ring seals if this job is necessary. Again the wiring to the solenoid is fairly exposed and can come adrift.

All the best, Peter.

Got a new relay and now it works, but only occasionally. Is this a clean out of the ports thing?

Could still be a dodgy connection but perhaps in the gear lever switch.

All the best, Peter.

Gear lever switch is fine, the relay clicks every time and the light comes on. Just no "action".

Check the wiring to the solenoid first, then remove solenoid (if it is OK) and clean the ports, then replace the solenoid with new O-ring seals. If solenoid is not OK replace it.

All the best, Peter.
