there should be some after market alloy covers for the volvo 240 axle because they are usually a Dana 30

this link has all the Volvo axle info you will ever need
http://people.physics.anu.edu.au/~am...volvo_dana.htm

you might find a cover on ebay for a jeep dana 30 people have said they fit but I would do extra checks first, I would buy a gasket for a Dana 30 and compare it to your volvo axle to see if its the same fit.
that seems like the best way to check it to be certain

If you do get an after market one from ebay make sure its a smooth round
curve where the crown wheel is if you buy one with a right angle in the case
you will reduce the oil flow around the crown and diff because the flow is diverted due to the 90 degree turn it has to make going round the case.

watch this video its very good for information on diff covers and lube

or take the simple route and find a 200/700/900 from 88 onwards. most of them are equipped with the alloy version.

Thanks for that Andrew

I had a change of plan and a heavy steel one will now be more suitable, so following your suggestion I think I’ve found a jeep Cherokee one just down the road from me.

Cheers Gav
