Agreed, 'James_N'. For 200 notes that one's a steal! It reminds me very much of my first 744, an '86(C) which I had for three years and 80K miles from June '98.

The mix of wheels on this one is interesting - I wonder if they had a porous rim? That happened on mine, but I was able to get a steel one from a breakers at the time.

Are you sure that you can't get it to Stafford - you know you want to!

Regards, John.

Just book an MOT, insure it and drive it to the pre-booked MOT.

Make sure the MoT is close to home, preferably your normal MoT station. As long as you take the most direct route (barring roadworks, diversions etc) it is as Jim says, fully legal to do that.

Make sure you have breakdown cover just in case something horrible happens on the way - cam belt or brake failure for example but if it's as good as the vendor suggests, check all the fluids etc (and brakes!), if the oil is a bit low top up with some ATF-U (it will help free off sticky pistons rings, revive the oil seals etc as you drive gently home to the MoT) and good luck with the MoT!

Never know, it might go straight through, if not, you should (unless it's as rotten as a 3-week old curry) be able to drive it home to do whatever reapirs are needed and the all important timing belt renewal, oil/filter change (use 1L of ATF-U in place of 1L of fresh 10W40 then top up with 10W40 to the normal level), coolant flush and thermostat/antifreeze change and consider a brake fluid change as well.
After that, deal with any advisories and anything else you find and put that 'orrible French thing up for sale - wash and polish it first and a youngster will think it's worth twice what you're asking!

i dont fancy it making the journey back as its been laid up for a good few years. Short distance would be OK but not nearly 200 miles I'll have to leave it. I hope someone off here snaps it up!

Check out a few of these James - most are likely to charge £1/mile one way but i know from experience by the time you've hired a trailer, fuel, food on the road and so on, it comes to about £200 to collect a car 200 miles away.

You may be lucky and find someone who has a pick up i Staffs or nerby to go back to London so could bring your 744 as a "side load" to reduce the cost to you.

If the buyer of my old ROver 827 Coupe could get it transported from Suffolk to Northern Ireland for £300, i'm pretty sure you can get a Volvo from London to Staffs for £200 or less.

Thanks Dave.

I can’t afford to get it back here unfortunately. Someone on here has PMed me asking for more info on the car so hopefully they can buy it and we can see another one rescued!

I’ll have to keep my eyes peeled for one closer to home. I’m hoping I can buy something cheap(ish) at some point and get rid of my Peugeot! So I’ll have to wait and see!

Do these 940s really sell at £4-6K? https://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C1205411 has a 'Petrol Power Plant Erupts, Spilling Power Like A Volcano, & Spitting It Forth Like A Pyroclastic Cloud' and it's on sale at £5.7k. Has 'traction control' as well...
