That is a Phase 1 resistor (- early 2001). Available cheaply second hand (moreso than phase 2). They should generally be much more robust too. This guide is for phase 2 cars

Phase 1's also had the resistor in this guide in them. It all depends on whether you have climate control or not as far as i know.

As far as I know all Phase 1 cars have that old heater resistor which was pretty much bulletproof comparing to the cheap rubbish one in the Phase 2 cars. Maybe (only guessing here) some of the later Phase 1 cars, might had the later Phase 2 heater resistor

thanks guys , so replaced the resistor ... replaced the control panel ... turned the settings 1 thru to 4 and got 12.volts at the fan .... but it still wont turn on for about 10 mins ... then it turns on and works just fine , heats up , blows air thru all vents etc etc .... turn car off ... then on again , no joy fan doesn't come on , ... so replaced the 25amp fuse , pulled out the fan motor , and the comm looks good , the bearings are good , the brushes have lots of life in them , everything spins freely .... so what the eff? .... what else can I check ? is there a control unit somewhere else on phase 1 cars ? its driving me nuts , the fact I am getting 12 volts down at the fan makes me think fan .... faulty ... anyone have this issue .... what else to do fellas?
cheers

Do you have standard AC or Climate control?

If you drive the car for 10-15 minutes, then stop and then start the car 1-2 minutes later, does the fan work, or does it take another 10 minutes to do so?

hey mate , standard control all manual ... if I turn the car off then on again , it is a 50/50 chance of it working straight away , or 5-10 minutes after that ... I can be driving along and have fan working , turn fan off , then on and no go !!
what else is in the heater line ? ,,, fuse , resistor, fan , switch ?????

I don't have a P1 and VIDA has no diagrams, so no idea I am afraid. Maybe someone with a Haynes manual might be able to scan and upload the wiring diagrams.
