1) Yes Dave, when I last stripped the tank out to replace one of the pumps some 4/5 years ago it and all the pipes were sparkling clean after Oxy treatment. More recently I have had to unblock the jets much more often. I have a length of suitable pipe to assist soaking the engine bay.

I have also noticed that even my spare top-up bottle stored in the garage out of the sunlight now develops floaters after a few months. I think the 'blossom' must settle to the bottom of the tank where it is immediately picked up by the pump suction like it does in my top-up bottle.

The trouble is that you cannot tell what's good or bad these days. I have always used one make of concentrate (CarPlan I think) which was fine until a years or so ago but that's now a problem.

2) Also thanks Jebus ... I always like a slug of meths before I fall off to sleep! What you say confirms my thoughts that the current stuff is crap and unfit for purpose. I was wondering if something could be added to the modern stuff to prevent the problem, or a formula devised to make up some home brew.

If you don’t want anything complicated. You can just use the skandix interval relay

I wouldn’t want any loose relays in my relay box

I think Jim used the relay socket with a bracket on so can be mounted in a convenient spot. Mine was a straight swap.

You can see the "99" relay in the bottom of my relay board.

Just FYI, Did mine today. Took me a while to sort out the pins. I Used an old relay socket froma scrap car so I could test things out.
Those who want to replace the rectangular wiper relay with 6 big pins, Will need to fabricate a little harness to piggyback the relay on.
Pin out as follows

Volvo Socket VW Relay 99

31 ------------------ 31
31b ----------------- 53S
I -------------------- I
S -------------------- 53M
86 ------------------- T
15 ------------------- 15

Enjoy your new washy wipey.
